1. What is Microban® antimicrobial protection?
Microban® antimicrobial protection helps prevent the growth of stain causing bacteria. Infused into Silestone countertops during the manufacturing process, Microban protection works continuously to keep your countertop cleaner between cleanings for the lifetime of the countertop. Microban protection is not designed to replace normal cleaning or to protect users against foodborne illness.

2. Are non-porous countertops naturally resistant to bacteria?
No. Porous countertop surfaces, such as granite can allow bacteria to penetrate the surface of the countertop if not properly sealed and maintained. While non-porous countertop materials such as quartz, laminates and composites keep bacteria from penetrating the countertop surface, bacteria can still multiply and grow on the surface of the countertop. Only Silestone countertops have built-in Microban antimicrobial protection to help prevent the growth of stain causing bacteria on the surface of the countertop.

3. Does Microban protection begin working immediately?
Yes. Microban protection works continuously, so as microbes come in contact with the countertop surface they’re unable to grow or reproduce, so your countertop stays cleaner for longer.

4. Do I still have to clean my Silestone countertop?
Yes. Microban antimicrobial protection is not designed to replace normal cleaning practices. Microban protection helps prevent the growth of stain causing bacteria on the surface of the countertop keeping it cleaner between cleanings.

5. Does Microban protection need to be reapplied?
No. Microban protection is built-in to the molecular structure of the Silestone countertop to provide continuous antimicrobial protection that won’t wash off or wear away for the lifetime of the countertop.

6. Is Microban protection safe?
The antimicrobial technology used in Silestone countertops has a long history of safe use and can be found in a breadth of consumer, industrial and healthcare products such as toothpaste, water filters, wound dressings, and more. The antimicrobial technology used in Silestone countertops is approved by the EPA for use in countertops and is NSF Listed for food and water contact applications.

7. Do antimicrobials cause resistant strains of microorganisms?
No. The overuse and misuse of antibiotics has been clearly linked to the development of resistance. The antimicrobial technology used in Silestone countertops has been used in personal care products, consumer and industrial products for over 30 years with no evidence of resistance.

8. Does any other countertop, vanity top or other quartz surface contain Microban?
No. Silestone has an exclusive agreement with Microban International and is the ONLY quartz surface in the world to offer built-in Microban antimicrobial protection.
